Matthew Burcaw / Sugar Box
Sugar Box is about impermanence and fragility. After casting caramelized sugar in latex molds made from shipping pallets, the works are then assembled in boxes of various sizes. Time and the environment will determine their fate. Heat will cause them to sag, humidity will cause then the melt but stand rigid, and cold will make them seize and shatter. This project has a limited life and can be appreciated throughout its changing existence. Sugar Box will be displayed in a vacant lot.

Date:

October 5-15

Location:

The boxes will be installed in the vacant lot between Third and Fourth Avenues on 14th Street, and at other locations on the street.
