While rolling, pushing, and pulling a large circular ladder form, the artist subverts the familiar function and metaphor of the utilitarian object of the wheel. By converting the shape of a ladder into a rolling reciprocal structure, Rossi establishes a symbolic public action that emphasizes an alternative egalitarian mode of social organization and presents a possibility for a “ladder of success†without a beginning or end, top or bottom.
On Saturday, October 6 from 11am-1pm, the performance will begin and end in the park on 14th Street and Eleventh Avenue, moving to and from Eighth Avenue.
Sunday, October 7 from 6-8pm, the performance will begin and end at Second Avenue and 14th Street, looping through Stuyvesant Town while moving to and from Avenue C.
Monday, October 8 from 9-11am, the performance will begin and end at First Avenue and 14th Street, moving to and from Fifth Avenue and looping through Union Square Park.
Saturday, October 13 from 4-6pm, the performance will begin at Irving Place and 14th Street and loop through Union Square Park as it moves west towards Eighth Avenue.
Sunday, October 14 from 10am-3pm, the performance will begin on 14th Street and Avenue C and move west along the entire length the street to end at the park on Eleventh Avenue.
