Federico Martínez Montoya / Finding Yourself In New York
Finding Yourself in New York is a public action that will test current models of cooperation in one of the largest and most crowded cities in the world. Martinez, a visitor from Mexico City, will lose himself in New York and search for a way to 14th Street through help from the public. The performance will challenge issues embedded in self-absorption and question interaction, understanding and fear. The work is a direct comment on empathy for the other, the foreigner.

Federico Martínez was born in Mexico City (1984). He is part of SOMA’s full study program (PEC) and recently was accepted in the MFA program at UNAM. Martínez creates situations and devices that makes visible an question the uncomfortable circumstances of urban environments. His work investigates de-materialization, residue and absence in the construction of identity. His work had been part of exhibitions including 8ª Biennial of Visual Poetry during the 32nd International Cervantino Fetival, The 2nd International Festival of Chihuahua and Eject II International Festival of Videoperformance.
