Celebrity World is a portentous spectacle adrift like a self-contained planet, hovering in a suspended reality of privilege, exclusivity and otherness. Bodyguards circulate around “Celebrity,†played by the artist in a face shield mask of Angelina Jolie donned in a modified version of Valentino. Paparazzi circulate the peripheral fervently, fueling the public’s awareness of the sight. A postproduction video will accompany the performance with head cam footage worn by “Celebrity,†bodyguards and paparazzi.

The performance will begin outside 137 W 14th Street (between Sixth and Seventh Avenues), and will move to and from First Avenue.

Interdisciplinary artist Tara Raye Russo’s core influences are from the everyday as well as current social, political and environmental modes. Russo seeks to capture an element of happenstance, with symbolic layering that heeds as well as inspires, raises curiosities and challenges how the viewer experiences and looks at art.
