Martha Wilson
Martha Wilson is a Philadelphia feminist performance artist. She is the Founding Director of Franklin Furnace, a member of P.P.O.W. and one of the original founders of Disband. Over the past four decades of her career, Wilson has performed and exhibited in numerous museums and institutions worldwide. She has lectured widely on the book as an art form, performance art and "variable media art," at institutions such as New York University, The School of Visual Arts, Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, and elsewhere. Her critical writings have been published in both national and international journals, magazines and scholarly publications. She is the author of Martha Wilson Sourcebook: 40 Years of Reconsidering Feminism, Performance, Alternative Spaces. Wilson has received numerous grants for her performance art, such as two National Endowment for the Arts Fellowships and a New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship as well as the Obie Award for commitment to artists’ freedom of expression.
